Acupuncture is part of traditional Eastern medicine. The word “acupuncture” comes from Latin (acus punctura).
According to ancient Chinese knowledge, energy circulates through the body via the meridians. If the energy is unable to flow steadily, for example because of stored emotions, the energy will be blocked.
There are acupuncture points at every meridian. These points are like small containers that collect energy. By piercing one of these points with a needle, the energy can be reinforced if it is too weak, or weakened if it is too strong. This allows the acupuncturist to restore the balance of body and mind.
An acupuncture variant is cosmetic acupuncture, which is often offered at beauty parlours. This form of acupuncture usually focuses on losing weight and combating wrinkles.
